Mgr Patrycja Walenczak
Psychologist working with children, teenagers and adults, Crisis intervention specialist
Patrycja Walenczak is a psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing psychological support to children, teenagers and adults. She completed a five-year master's degree in psychology, specialising in clinical psychology, at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
She has worked in schools, in a psychological and educational counselling service and in a community mental health centre for children and young people run under the national health service (NFZ), where she was the clinical coordinator of the psychology team. She has experience in therapeutic work with children and teenagers after trauma and with foster and adoptive families. She works with social support institutions, helping adults through difficult life situations.
She sees children of preschool and school age as well as teenagers. She works with emotional difficulties and behavioural problems, difficulties with peers and at school, and with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.
With younger children she works through play, drawing and creative techniques, which allow a child to express emotions without having to name them directly. With teenagers she talks openly and adapts her approach to the difficulty they bring.
In her work with adults she provides psychological support and crisis intervention. She sees people experiencing chronic stress and overload, people going through sudden life changes and crises (loss, separation, a crisis of early adulthood or midlife), people with difficulties in personal, family or work relationships, and people experiencing low mood, loss of motivation and a sense of being lost. She works with adult clients of any age, including clients aged 45 and over.
She focuses on working through the crisis and on the resources a client can draw on. She helps clients understand the mechanisms behind their difficulties and looks for solutions together with them. She has her work regularly supervised by a supervisor of psychotherapy for children, teenagers and adults.
For years she has taught psychology students at WSB Merito University in Poznań, including classes on crisis intervention. She also runs peer supervision, supervision and mentoring for psychologists, teachers and people in caring professions, in person and online.
